Cancer survivor runs half marathon in Delhi
New Delhi, Sep 25 (UNI) Two-time cancer survivor Findlay Young today hit the road in the capital as part of the 'The Great World Run'-- his awe-inspiring mission to run 24 half-marathons in as many days around the world.
Findlay will see Mumbai tomorrow as he covers 13 countries and across six continents around the world. Findlay, who has survived thyroid cancer twice, is planning to run 314.4miles and travel for around 130 hours by plane to complete the amazing feat and raise 100,000 pounds for Cancer Research UK's life saving work.
Findlay was first diagnosed with cancer in July 2003 and was treated with radioactive iodine and surgery to remove the tumour from his thyroid. In April 2005, Findlay was told his cancer had returned and had surgery to remove his thyroid gland. Four months later he took part in the BUPA Great North Run for Cancer Research UK.
''The Great World Run is my greatest challenge yet but I can't wait to get started. I'm not a natural runner. I'm never going to win a race or an Olympic medal. But when I was in hospital, I often thought about running and getting back on the road as part of my recovery. Cancer is no longer part of me but running is,'' Findlay said.
