BJP demands President's rule in Manipur
Itanagar, Sep 25 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) today reiterated its demand for imposing President's rule in trouble-torn Manipur in view of rising insurgency.
BJP's North East In-charge V Satish alleged in a press conference that the state's situation had been deteriorating and even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had admitted this in a meeting at Nainital on Saturday.
Claiming that there was a 'total breakdown' of law and order in the state, BJP leaders have alleged that some ministers in the Okram Ibobi Singh ministry had nexus with insurgent outfits.
''The chief minister has failed to keep the people's aspirations and there is an urgent need to impose President's rule in the state as assembly elections are round the corner,'' Mr Satish pointed out.
He said 40 per cent of the total insurgent ativities in North East during the year were reported from Manipur alone.
The prime minister's speech had endorsed the view of the BJP in regard to Manipur, Mr Satish averred.
Lambasting the UPA government at the Centre for its 'soft stand' on insurgents in Northeast, Mr Satish said Bangladesh had become the hub of international Islamic fundamentalist forces active in the country as well as the NE.
''The Asom and Tripura governments are not taking any harsh action against those indulging in anti-social activities,'' he said.
Mr Satish arrived here yesterday to attend a joint meeting of all BJP workers to discuss vital issues confronting the state.
