S M Krishna calls on MK, stresses need for FDI
Chennai, Sept 24: Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna today called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and stressed the need for attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for the development of the country.
Mr Krishna, who was the Chief Guest at a function organised by the Tamil film industry to felicitate Mr Karunanidhi last evening, called on him at the latter's residence here this morning and congratulated him for the strides, the state was making on the industrial front.
Talking to newspersons, he said he had nearly four decade long association with Mr Karunanidhi and described his visit as a courtesy call.
He invited Mr Karunanidhi to take part in his birthday elebrations in Bangalore.
To a question, the former Karnataka Chief Minister made it clear that he had no interest in returning to politics.
Mr Krishna said he discussed with Mr Karunanidhi the need for attracting FDIs in the country and expressed his happiness over the kind of investment, Tamil Nadu was attracting. ''I am very happy with the kind of investments, the state is attracting,'' he said.
Mr Krishna said the nation required to attract FDIs for its development. Irrespective of the sectors in which FDIs take place, such investments were good for the country and the nation stands to gain by it, he added.
''Whether the investments take place in Chennai, Coimbatore, Pune or Hyderabad, ultimately, they will help for the growth of the Gross Domestic Product,'' he added.
Union Communication and Information Technology Minister Dayanidhi Maran was present in the meeting.
