Incessant rains throws life out of gear in Bihar
Patna, Sep 24 (UNI) Incessant rains during the last four days have thrown life out of gear in Bihar as several low lying areas were inundated.
Flood situation in some districts turned grim with several rivers rising.
Met office sources said cyclonic waves in the Bay of Bengal was responsible for the current spell of rains in most parts of the state, including Patna.
Cloudy weather and incessant rains has caused a dip in mercury.
According to reports received from Bhabhua, water of Suvarna river has overflowed near Hanuman Ghat, snapping the link of Aghaura block from district headquarters. The Kukurnahia river was flowing over its embankment inundating Bhabhua-Mohania main road disrupting the traffic movements since last night.
There was mixed feeling among people of Drabhanga as the District Magistrate Upendra Sharma said the people were happy due to current spell of rains ending the drought like situation in the district. He, however, added that water of Kosi, Kamla Balan and Bagmati rivers entered into around fifty villages making lives of villagers troublesome. No reports of any casualty has been reported, he added.
Strong wind and rains caused extensive damage to banana plantations in Purnea while several houses collapsed during the last four days in the district. Rivers Kosi, Parman, Kankahi, Mahananda, and Bakra were maintaining rising trend in the district, the official sources said.
Meanwhile, according to a release of Central Water Commission, Bhagalpur, Kahalgaon, Baltara recorded 181 mm, 106 mm, and 102 mm of rains respectively during the last twenty four hours. Catchment areas of important rivers of the state would receive light to moderate rains during the next 24 hours, said the met office in a forecast.
