Four records sunk, Arjun picks a brace
Bangalore, Sep 24 (UNI) On a day when only three meet records were sunk ace swimmer Arjun Muralidharan of Police completed a record double gold to take his tally to four on the penultimate day of the LIC 60th Sr National Aquatic Championship here today.
Arjun won the 50 M Backstroke and 200 M Butterfly in record timings, improving upon his own previous marks. The other record for the day came in Women's section with Charu Mishra of Police itching a new timing in 1500 M Freestyle.
Arjun who had earlier won 100 M backstroke and 200 M Butterfly was in elements as he won first the 50 backstroke with a timing of 27.63 secs clipping 0.34 seconds from his previous meet record 27.97 secs created last year. Later with aplomb he won the 200 m butterfly in two min 04.56 seconds improving upon his last year's record mark of two min 05.13 seconds.
Charu effortlessly won her event with a timining of 18 min 30.54 secs, with the previous best being 18 min 42.72 secs held by Karnataka mermaid Nisha Millet (2003).
Arjun later said his training in Canada had helped him to come out with an improved performance. The underwater pull gave him the advantage to push back International swimmer Rehan Ponacha, a strong contender from Karnataka.
