UPA fails to provide relief to drought-hit farmers: AGP

Guwahati, Sep 23 (UNI) The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today criticized the Congress government both at the State and the Centre for its failure in providing relief to lakhs of drought-hit farmers in the state.

The AGP Legislature Party (AGPLP) in a meeting yesterday expressed anguish over Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's failure to take the stock of the drought situation here.

The AGP claimed that the Prime Minister had pledged to make a trip to the drought-hit state and tackle the crisis.

The AGPLP earlier had demanded immediate distribution of free seeds among drought-affected farmers to go for large-scale cultivation of Rabi crop.
