UPA fails to provide aid to drought-hit farmers
Guwahati, Sept 23: The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today criticized the Congress government both at the State and the Centre for its failure in providing relief to lakhs of drought-hit farmers in the state.
The AGP Legislature Party (AGPLP) in a meeting yesterday expressed anguish over Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's failure to take the stock of the drought situation here.
The AGP claimed that the Prime Minister had pledged to make a trip to the drought-hit state and tackle the crisis.
The AGPLP earlier had demanded immediate distribution of free seeds among drought-affected farmers to go for large-scale cultivation of Rabi crop.
