TRS withdrawal will not upset UPA Govt: Yechury
Hyderabad, Sep 23: CPI(M) Ideologue and Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury today said the resignation of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Chief K Chandrasekhara Rao from the Lok Sabha and his party's withdrawal of support to the UPA would have no bearing on the UPA government at the Centre.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Yechury said his party was against the bifurcation of the State and its stand was well known.
He said the Karimnagar Lok Sabha by-election necessitated by the resignation of TRS Chief and former Union Minister could not be construed as a referendum on the creation of Telangana state.
CPI National Council member and MP S Sudhakar Reddy termed the development as unfortunate. The creation of new state could not be done on an urgent basis and there was need for prolonged debate, he added.
Mr Reddy said the issue needed to be discussed with an objectivity.
Replying to a question whether his party would field a candidate in Karimnagar, he said the issue would be discussed by the state committee of the party.
He said his party won one of the assembly segments of the Parlimentary Constituency and had strength in other constituencies also.
