PMAF accuses Govt of failing to stop caste discrimination in AIIMS
New Delhi, Sep 23 (UNI) The AIIMS Progressive Medicos and Scientists' Forum (PMAF), representing the reserved category students, today accused the UPA government of having failed in taking action against perpetrators of caste oppression in the institute.
''Despite caste discrimination in full knowledge of the government, the Prime Minister's Office PMO has maintained a stoic silence on the issue. Even the Health Minister, who is the AIIMS President, is silent,'' PMAF spokesperson Ajay Singh said.
He alleged that the AIIMS Management, under Director P Venugopal, was ''sheltering'' students who had been targetting SC/ST students.
''Instances of discrimination were brought to the notice of the AIIMS Director.... Dr Venugopal is directly sheltering guilty students,'' he alleged.
Mr Singh alleged that the institute management had not taken concrete action on the complaint, filed in the Director's office on September 8, and no efforts had been made to form the Students' Grievances Cell.
''The unofficial committee under Dr T D Dogra has been a mere eyewash.... It has been trying to force a compromise rather that investigate and dispense justice,'' he added.
