KPCC to raise drought issue in Belgaum special session
Mysore, Sep 23 (UNI) The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Drought Committee today urged the State Government to release necessary funds for taking up relief works in drought-hit areas and said the issue would be taken up at the special Legislature session in Belgaum, commencing on September 25.
Speaking to newspersons here, Mysore Division Drought Committee Chairman and former Legislative Council Chairman V R Sudarshan, MLC, said the Congress had convened its Legislators' meeting for the purpose in Belgaum. The State Government had failed to take up necessary drought relief works even after the Union Government had sanctioned Rs 250 crore for the purpose, he alleged.
The KPCC Drought Committee team, which visited drought-hit areas of Mysore and Chamarajanagara districts, said the Government had been demanding more funds without utilising the released amount.
KPCC President Mallikarjuna Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly N Dharam Singh, who had visited New Delhi recently, had apprised the Centre about the drought situation prevailing in the State and sought more funds.
Mr Sudarshan said the KPCC had constituted four divisional level drought study committes, which would visit all the four revenue districts and submit its report to the KPCC President by October 16 for necessary action.
He said the committee would visit Mandya, Hassan and Chikmagalur during the first week of October and then Kodagu, Mangalore and Udupi, before preparing its report.
