Heavy rains likely in Bengal, low pressure weakening
Kolkata, Sep 23 (UNI) Met officials have predicted more downpour in the rain soaked metropolis in the next 24 hours.
Heavy to very heavy rains are likely to occur in Sub-Himalayan and Gangetic West Bengal in the next 24 hours though the well-marked low pressure, which caused yesterday's deluge, was weakening, Met department officials said today.
They said though the low pressure has been gradually weakening and the system moving towards Jharkhand, it was potent enough to cause heavy rains. The rainfall recorded till 1430 hours today was 65 mm.
Met sources said the city would also witness a few spells of rains and, at times, heavy showers.
The rains, however, had brought down the maximum temperature to 26.9 degree Celsius from above 30 a few days ago, while the minimum was 25.2 degree Celsius.
The maximum relative humidity was 97 per cent while the minimum was 84 per cent.
Life in the city and surrounding areas was disrupted yesterday following incessant rains.
Several areas still remained water logged. For the second day today, commuters had a trying time reaching their destinations as public transport was scarce. Many arterial roads across the city are still submerged.
