GRI golden jubilee: Kalam honours Adoor among other Alumnus

Gandhigram, Tamil Nadu, Sep 23 (UNI) Noted filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan was among the three alumni honoured today as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI), a deemed University.

Participating in the celebration here, President A P J Abdul Kalam presented a citation to the renowned director, who received it in person.

The other two alumni, who received a similar honour were V Revathan, Vice-Chairman of the Seva Lanka Foundation in Sri Lanka and R Vengaiyan, a former empoyee of the GRI.

Dr Kalam also inaugurated a Bio-Fuel and Jatropha Promotion Centre for which the University Grants Commission has granted Rs 88 lakh.

Tamil Nadu Governor S S Barnala inaugurated the new Information Technology block, named after the President.
