Anbumani leads 'Heart Day' walk, says run and shun junk food

Chennai, Sep 23 (UNI) Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, today led the way in observing World Heart Day the participating in a 'public health walk' programme at the Marina beach here.

Dr Anbumani, who later announced to presspersons that the Centre would introduce two national level programmes for heart care and diabetes, led about 400 walkers, also propagated a low calorie diet for heart patients. He also presented heart friendly refreshments and brochures on tips for a healthy heart.

He appealed to the people to avoid eating junk food and most importantly, stop smoking. He recommended a brisk 2 km walk on the beach everyday for one's heart to stay healthy.

He said the Union Health Ministry would also by way of warning print pictures on cigarette packets which would drive home the point that smoking could be fatal.

Early morning walkers and brisk walkers who exercise everyday on the Marina at the crack of dawn everyday were among those who took part in the walk.

The programme was organised by Dr G Sengottuvelu, an interventional Cardiologist at the well known Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institue here in association with Rotary Club of Madras North West.
