TMMK demands apology, volunteers held to prevent picketing
Chennai, Sep 22 (UNI) Volunteers of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) were arrested when they tried to proceed in a procession to picket AIAMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's residence, in protest against here remarks against a senior IAS Officer Syed Munir Hoda.
The party demanded an apology from Ms Jayalalithaa for her remarks, General Secretary S Hyder Ali, who led the agitation, said in a statement.
The party recalling Ms Jayalalithaa's statement that Mr Munir Hoda had secretly helped Abdul Nassar Madhani to escape from prison and hence he was suspended, alleged that the charge was false.
It pointed out that an affidavit was filed in Madras High Court by Deputy Secretary, Home, Mr Kirubakaran after obtaining the consent of Additional Director General of Police, SIT DGP, Law Secretary, Public Prosecutor and Additional Government Pleader. This was a collective decision for which only an individual (Mr Hoda) was being targetted, the TMMK alleged.
The suspension order served on Mr Hoda by the previous government was revoked by Presidential orders. However, the then government did not comply , the party also alleged.
