Punjab CM asks DC to probe police action in PAU
Chandigarh, Sep 22 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today asked the Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner to probe the alleged high handedness of police on the agitating students of Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) during his visit to the university campus yesterday.
Taking cognizance of the news reports which also showed photographs of police personnel dragging girl students into a vehicle, the CM directed Deputy Commissioner Vinod Gupta to look into the matter and submit a report withion a week, a spokesman here said.
Expressing sympathies with the veterinary students, Capt Singh reiterated the entire selection process for the recruitment of 482 veterinary doctors would be completed within a week.
He said he had already conceded their demand when the deputation of these students met him yesterday at PAU and directed Principal Secretary Animal Husbandry D S Bains on the spot to complete the entire recruitment process without any further delay.
The Chief Minister appealed to the students to shun the path of agitation as the doors of his government were ever open for dialogue.
