Heart attack to be major killer in India by 2015

Mumbai, Sep 22 (UNI) By 2015 heart attacks will be major killers in India thus making heart diseases emerging as one of the world's leading chronic problems, says Dr Rohit Sane, an Ayurvedic doctor and the founder of Madhavbaug-India's first Ayurvedic Cardiac Rehabilitation Village.

Speaking at a press conference at IMC here, Dr Sane said,''Heart diseases are lifestyle diseases. Angioplasty and Bypass surgery are not the only solution. By 2015, 60 per cent of cardiac deaths in the world will be in India, about 30 per cent of adult population (18 cr) are having risk factors of the disease.'' Renowned Ayurvedic heart specialists at Madhavbaug use a blend of panchkarma therapies, dinacharya, active and passive exercises meditation and medical astrology to activate the collaterals and ease the blood flow to all parts of the body. Dr Sane has experimented integration of Ayurveda with modern science and is successful in formulating set of therapies patented under ''Sampurna Hriddaya suddikaran'' specifically catering to wellness of the heart.

He further said,''There are four major ways to prevent heart diseases, they are balanced cardiac diet, cardiac exercises, meditation and cardiac Panchkarma therapy.'' ''Today, people between the age group of 27 to 28 years are also complaining of heart problems, therefore people of this age group should participate in the preventive programmes,'' Dr Sane said.

The centre is situated just 60 kms from Mumbai at Khopoli where ancient healing methods merge contemporary and modern scientific approaches. Within six months of its inception, this village has several distinctive case studies in its pocket, where several patients who have previously undergone bypass or angioplasty or other heart related problems have benefitted with their stay at Madhavbaug.

In par with the theme for 'World Heart Day' ''How Young is your heart?'' Dr Rohit Sane has lined up a unique, first of its kind event. He is also starting a heart awareness week from September 25 to 30 where he along with his panel of doctors will provide free health check-ups and counselling at his centres in Vidyavihar, Chembur and Dombivili.

On the eve of ''World Heart Day'' on September 24, there will be a walkathon, where patients will walk 2 kms at 1630 hrs at Shivaji Park.
