Haryana Railway police launches drive to identitfy dead

Ambala, Sep 22 (UNI) The Haryana Government Railway Police (GRP) launched a special drive for the identification of dead bodies found or recovered in areas under its jurisdiction in the state.

Giving the information to newspersons here today GRP, SP Bharati Arora disclosed that any body could get information about the missing persons in the last five years after looking at photographs and other particulars displayed at her office near the general bus stand, Ambala Cantonment. These would be an display from September 29 to October one.

The SP said the GRP had found 2149 bodies during the last five years in the state and these remained unidentified. She said that 250 dead bodies were recovered in the current year which could not be identified. These included 21 victims who were murdered on trains, at railway stations or along rail lines.

She said during the special drive, photographs of the deceased and clothes worn by them the time of death would be on display in her office to facilitate identification.

She has sought help from the NGOs, social welfare bodies and the media for wide publicity of the special drive so that more and more people who had lost their kith and kin, could come forward to identify their relatives. Identity of the dead would facilitate to settle the murder cases, claims of insurance etc.
