35,000 litres of petrol saved during 3 day taxi stir

Aizawl, Sep 22 (UNI) An average of 12,000 liters of petrol was saved per day in Mizoram following a three-day taxi strike.

A survey by Zoram News Service revealed that petrol sales had dropped drastically by 40,000 litres in all the petrol tanks during the strike.

'' Out-sales at all petrol bunks had dropped by 70 to 80 per cent during these three days,'' a petrol pump owner said.

The total loss amounts to Rs one crore, sources said.

The state capital alone had a fleet of more than 2,500 cabs which was added by more 3,376 this year, sources said.

About 40 per cent of taxis have their own cab under the Zoram Taxi Owners' Association (ZTOA).

Meanwhile, the strikers have called off the stir today following the agreement between the Transport department and ZTOA, sources said.
