Thailand army bans political party meetings
Bangkok, Sept 21: The Thai army banned political party meetings and ''political activities'' today, two days after ousting Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in a coup.
''To ensure the constitutional monarchy is functioning after reforms have been completed, the Political Reform Council has ordered political parties to halt all meetings and political activities,'' it said in a statement read out on television.
It did not give a timeframe.
In the same order, the coup leaders banned the formation of new political parties.
