Shillong, Sep 21 (UNI) Meghalaya government has appealed to the NGOs in the state not to take law into their hands while conducting anti-infiltration drive against illegal Bangladeshi migrants.

State Chief Secretary S K Tewari told the newsmen here today that the government would not allow anyone to violate the laws while ensuring the 'genuine' citizens are not harassed.

The government would be working on various strategies to prevent illegal infiltration, Mr Tewari said.

''We should be extreme vigilant to ensure that the genuine Indian citizens were not harassed,'' he said.

Upon the Indo-Nepal treaty, Mr Tewari said the issue did not figure in the cabinet meeting.

However, he said the state government had earlier taken up the matter with the Centre for the need of having some regulations to check the influx from Nepal also.
