Five SL Tamil MPs meet MK Narayanan, Bardhan
New Delhi, Sept 21: Five Tamil MPs from Sri Lanka, led by Mr R Sambandhan, today met National Security Advisor M K Narayanan and CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan and apprised them of the plight of Tamils in the North-Eastern region of the island in the wake of the military onslaught by the government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Taking strong exception to the Sri Lankan government's efforts to find a military solution to the ethnic problem, they said there was need for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
They also wanted more powers to the North-Eastern region and a federal set up in Sri Lanka.
Talking to reporters Mr Bardhan and the party's National Secretary D Raja said the MPs also felt that both the Defence forces and the LTTE should respect the ceasefire agreement and resume talks.
The MPs are expected to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tomorrow. They had a meeting with Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed and Foreign Secretary-designate Shiv Shankar Menon yesterday.
Today's meetings with Mr Bardhan and the NSA lasted more than an hour each.
