Cabinet okays India-Indonesia Marine and Fisheries Coopn MoU
New Delhi, Sep 21 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today accorded approval to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between India and Indonesia for cooperation in the field of marine and fisheries.
Under the MoU, signed here on November 23, 2005, India and Indonesia will cooperate in aquaculture development through exchange of information and data, training and sharing of expertise as also curb illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing activities, an official spokesperson said briefing newspersons after the Cabinet meeting.
It also provides for post-harvest development and food safety (including processing, distribution and fishery trade), coastal fisheries management and marine capture fisheries.
The MoU which came into force on the date of its signing, will be valid for a period of five years and shall be automatically renewed for another five years unless either party terminates it.
