BEAMS to make major foray into South India
Bangalore, Sep 21 (UNI) Mumbai based BEAMS, leader in gynaecological endoscopy, would make a major foray into South India by opening exclusive fibroid clinics in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad by next year.
Briefing newspersons about the company's plans, BEAMS Director Dr Rakesh Sinha said that a Rs 50 crore investment would be made to open the exclusive clinics in the three South Indian cities to offer world class treatment for fibroid, a common disease that causes tumor in the muscle line of uterus. The Bangalore clinic would be the first to be set up and it would be ready by January next year.
''Twentyfive per cent of women in India,in the age group of 18-50, will be at risk for fibroids. This means nearly 25 million women in the country face the risk. We want to create awareness among the women that fibroid rarely causes cancer and the women should not delay getting operated for its removal,'' he added.
Dr Sinha said gynaecological endoscopy offered minimally invasive surgery with minimal pain. Endoscopic surgery offered major advantage compared to open surgery as the women could get herself discharged on the same day of the surgery and resume their work within four days. It leaves no permanent scars or made the woman undergo heavy pain.
What causes Fibroid is still not clear, but it occurred in women who marry late or delay their pregnancy. This was mainly evident in working women and city dwellers and was common with those having professional outlook. Women in rural areas faced minimum risk as they usually marry and conceive at an early age, he added.
Dr Sinha said that the Women who suffer from excess bleeding, pain in the abdomen, pressure effect or infertility should undergo a screening for fibroid.
The endoscopic surgery would cost between Rs 35,000 to Rs 85,000.
BEAMS had entered the Guinness Book of World Records when its team of Doctors led by him had removed a 3.4 kg fibroid from a 37-year-old woman, he added.
