Govt not sincere in solving ULFA
Guwahati, Sep 21: Former Asom Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta has accused present incumbent Tarun Gogoi of maintaining double standard in solving the ULFA and several other problems.
Addressing newsmen today Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president Mr Mahanta said Mr Gogoi was not releasing the detained ULFA leaders to start direct talks with the Centre.
''State government should create a condusive situation first,'' he said.
He also questioned Mr Gogoi's claim of securing more central funds during the present government rule, compared to that of the previous Regional party government in the state.
''Compared to the states like Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, the Congress ruled state government here has failed to get the required funds,'' he commented. '' The state has always fought for its wants during the Congress regime, no problems was solved without agitation, be it setting up of an OIL refinery, bridge over Brahmaputra or establishment of a University,'' he said.
The AGP was successful to achieve 90 per cent aids and ten per cent loan as grants, however, during the congress rule the state got 70 per cent loan and only 30 per cent as aids,'' he said.
New Industrial Policy, Numaligarh Refinery, several bridges over Brahmaputra and extension of broad gauge railway lines upto Tinsukia were done during the AGP'S period, he said.
Mr Gogoi has come to power for the second time due to the division of the regional political parties and added that he was frightened of the facts that the regional political parties in the state again started to unite, Mr Mahanta said.
The AGP (P) also demanded public hearing of Saikia commission report on secret killings to clear the doubts.
