No deaths due to Chikungunya in Tiruchirapalli: Collector

Tiruchirapalli, Sep 20 (UNI) District Collector Ashish Vachchani today said there were no deaths due to Chikungunya in any part of Tiruchirapalli District as reported by a section of media.

Talking to newsmen here, he said the district administration had taken up anti-larval treatment in stagnant water and drainage systems in the suspected Thuvarangkurichi, Marungapuri and Manapparai panchayat unions, where many people were afflicted with an acute viral fever.

He said intensive fogging was also carried out in these areas and the entire district would be covered with intensive fogging and anti-larval treatment in a phased manner.

Mr Vachchani said blood samples of 11 suspected cases from different parts of the district, which were sent to the National Institute of Virology at Pune for analysis proved positive for Chikungunya and all of them were well now after treatment, he said.
