Bid to name the Ganga Ghat after Guru Golwalkar stirs protest

Hardwar Sep 20 (UNI) What is in a name? A lot, it seems. Congress workers today strongly protested the bid to name Ganga ghat at Bhimgoda after the former RSS chief, Guru Golwalkar by some RSS and BJP activists and saints.

In a Sammelan organised to discuss the ways to protect the Ganga and the Himalayas, attended by the RSS chief, K C Sudershan and some prominent saints along with BJP workers, Swami Hans Dass a prominent saint proposed that the new ghat constructed by the state government during the last Ardh Kumbh should be named after Guru Golwalkar. The proposal was accepted unanimously by all present during the sammelan yesterday, including the former Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudi.

Today the Congress workers protested the arbitrary naming of the ghat without taking prior permission from the administration. Acting on the complaint of the Congress workers, SP (city) Jagat Ram Joshi and City Magistrate B S Dhanik reached the spot and took the stone on which the new name of the ghat was inscribed in their possession.

BJP and RSS workers, led by the city MLA Madan Kaushik, MLA from Roorkee S C Jain, former State Minister M S Gaonwasi and Swami Hans Dass, staged a demonstration and later sat on dharna protesting against the action of the civil and police administration.
