Youth rescued after 13 years of confinement in own house
Angul, Sep 19 (UNI) After spending 13 years in confinement in his own house, a youth was finally freed much to the discomfort of his family members.
The youth, Narrotam, was hardly able to speak when he was rescued from the house in a remote village at Koshala under Chhendipada block by the local tahsildar with the help of the police yesterday.
He was later admitted to a hospital.
Narottam's family had dumped him in a small room because of his ''erratic behaviour''.
It was only recently that the news leaked. The locals intimated the matter to the administration and the 38-year-old finally got his freedom with police intervention.
After college, Narottam fell in love with a tribal girl and married despite opposition from his family.
His family members alleged that soon after the marriage, Narrotam started behaving in a ''different'' way and assaulted them on slightest provocation.
Soon after his wife deserted him and returned to her parental house, Narottam was put in a room and his mother used to give him food through a hole in a wall of the room. Ironically, none of his friends or relatives enquired about Narottam.
Doctors attending on Narrotam in the hospital said he had been suffering from severe malnutrition.
