Rs 100 crores for revamping three state medical colleges

Guwahati, Sep 19 (UNI) The Asom government has earmarked Rs 100 crores for three state medical colleges during the next three years, Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

''Rs 50 crores will be spent for infrastructural development and the remaining amount will be on purchasing medical equipments,'' Mr Sarma said this while visiting the Silchar Medical College and Hospital yesterday.

All vacant posts in the Medical Colleges would be filled up gradually, he added.

The minister urged the doctors to improve performance in patient care so that people in large numbers come to government hospitals for treatment instead of rushing to private nursing homes.

He also warned the nursing home owners that stern action would be taken against them if they were found engaging government doctors between 8 AM to 2 PM.
