IDSA registers 12.8 per cent growth
Chennai, Sep 19: The Indian Direct Selling Association (IDSA) today announced robust growth of 12.8 per cent for the Indian direct industry and aimed to achieve a turnover of Rs 8,000 crore by 2010.
Addressing a press conference here on the occasion of IDSA's tenth anniversary, IDSA Chairman Anukul Agarwal said the direct selling industry, including IDSA members, had recorded a turnover of Rs 3,110 crore.
He also unveiled 'IDSA Authorized Company' seal as part of the IDSA's mission to protect consumer interest. The member companies would be committed to the ethical guidelines and Code of Conduct stipulated by the Washington-based World Federation of Direct Selling Associations, he added.
He said the industry, responsible for producing the maximum millionaires across the world, was now empowering women in India, who now constitute more than 65 per cent of the work force.
To encourage and sustain this positive run, the Centre should frame and enact a legislation that would help institutionalise trade practices in this sector, Mr Agarwal added.
IDSA Vice-Chairman P Sanker said proactive regulations to check the entry of unscrupulous players in the direct selling industry would not only help the industry get more organised but also protect consumer interests and attract serious and legitimate players.
