Bar assn and porbandar COC protest of shifting of court bldg

Rajkot, Sep 19 (UNI) The District Chamber of Commerce of Porbandar and the Porbandar Bar Association today began their token fast at Sudama chowk in protest against the shifting of the court building to the outskirts of Porbandar city.

The President of the district chamber of commerce of Porbandar Anil Karia told UNI over phone that the shifiting of the court from the heart of the city to the new building is not sound and constructive because the new judicial complex is about 10 km away from the city. Shifting of the court will cause a lot of hardship to the people as they will have to commute long distances against a backdrop of inadequate transport facility, Mr Karia said.

Nearly 50 members of the district chamber of commerce are on a one-day fast and have demanded that the court not be shifted.

Today, lawyers stayed away from court work, Mr Karia informed.

The traders community observed a half-day bandh in protest against the move to shift the court building.

The present court complex comprising many government offices such as sale-tax and panchayat. These officies would also be shifted there, creating more hardships to the people of the region.

The government has decided to shift the court and other offices to the new buidling complex on the outskirts of the city from October 2, on Gandhi Jayanti day, official sources said.

''We would meet again on Thursday to chalk out the future course of action against the move,'' The president added.
