Stop receiving fresh stock from Sept 20, FAM urges traders

Mumbai, Sep 18 (UNI) Federation of Associations of Maharashtra (FAM), a Mumbai based trade body has unanimously passed a resolution that the wholesale traders across Maharashtra will stop receiving fresh stock with effect from September 20,2006 and no auction/sales will be carried out in the producing centre Mandies of the Maharashtra from September 21, 2006.

In a statement here today, FAM president Mr Mohan Gurnani said,'' The traders will shut down their business from October two, 2006 after performing Dassera pooja and observing Gandhi Jayanti. The support of Retail trade and consumers will also solicit as every one in the meeting recently held here on September 16, 2006 felt that the prices will rise 20 per cent and the consumers will be badly affected if Essential commodities are not exempted from Value Added Tax (VAT) net by September 30,2006.''
