Selja urges North Eastern states to prepare JNNURM project report
Shillong, Sep 18 (UNI) Union Minister of state in-charge of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Ms Selja has asked the Northeast government to prepare a comprehensive detailed project report to avail the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
JNNURM aims at planned development of the cities in urban infrastructure, housing and basic civic amenities. An amount of Rs 50, 000 crore has been earmarked as the Centre's contribution to the task of urban renewal.
Inaugurating a conference of Urban Development ministers and Secretaries of Northeastern states here today, the minister said, ''We have been receiving overwhelming response from several states to avail funding under the JNNURM. However, my ministry has not received any projects from any Northeastern states or Sikkim under JNNRUM so far.'' She also informed that her ministry would contribute 90 per cent for the renewal project in the region while the state governments will share the rest.
The state governments will need to submit a comprehensive report containing package of housing and infrastructure development projects in cities and town in order to improve the living condition of the poor, she said.
The Union Minister also urged the state governments to put in their best efforts so that the special benefits under Basic Services to the Urban Poor (BSUP) and Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP) reach the people.
