Renuka expresses concern over female infanticide
Mumbai, Sep 17 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Choudhury today expressed concern over the growing incidence of female infanticide and called for the need to create awareness about protecting the girl child and population control measures.
Addressing a gathering after giving away the Giants International awards, Ms Choudhury said by 2020, India's population is expected to grow so fast that out of every six persons in the World one will be Indian.
She called for a public-private partnership in creating awareness against female infanticide and population control. She lauded the efforts of Giants International headed by former Mumbai Mayor Nana Chudasama in social activities.
Mr Chudasama said Giants International will organise a conference against female infanticide and create awareness.
Earlier, Ms Choudhury gave away awards to Magsaysay award winner Baba Amte, filmmaker Yash Chopra, Vice chancellor of Mumbai university Dr Vijay Khole, Dr Sharadkumar Dicksheet (medicine), Anil Agarwal (business), Bipasha Basu (actress), Vivek Oberoi (actor), Rajeev Bajaj and Khalid A H Ansari (journalism), Ustad Sultan Khan (music) and Manavjeet Singh Sandhu (sports).
Dr Vikas Amte, Baba Amte's son collected the award on behalf of his father and Bipasha Basu could not attend the function.
