Project management has pivotal role in IT strides:Gopalakrishnan
Bangalore, Sep 18 (UNI) Continuous innovative thinking and practices should be imbibed to to take Information Technology sector to greater heights despite rapid advances made with democratisation of computering, Prsident and Chief Operationg Officer of Infosys Technologis S Gopalakrishnan said today.
Speaking after inagurating the two-day National Conference of Project Management Practitioners 2006, organised Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) here he said project management had played a key role in achieving tremandous success in the field of IT and there was a need to leverage it to global standards.
He said that India was seen as emerging economic power, in the world market with having very large infrastructure projects in the field of IT, Aerospace and other product manufacturing areas and cleraly the need of the hour was project management. ''We have also showcased our ability to manage projects on-time with quality and also optimaly use of scarce of resources'' he said and called upon Project Managers to ensure that they participate in global forum and contribute their might for research and get more space at the world level.
Expressing concern over the high cost incurred in project certification in India, he said it could be off-shoring some of the operations of the the Project Management Institute which was headquartered at Philadelphia. He said that by reducing the cost of getting Project Management Certificate more number of professionals would benefit and they would become more participants at all spheres of industries, he said.
Mr Gopalakrishnan also called upon the Project Management professionals to network and share their experience for mutual benefit.
BCIC President Venkat Kedilaya speaking on the success of Project management in the country said the country should benchmark to world standards as competition was catching up in fast pace from other countriesld standard with prospective and project management profession. Besides IT and BT industries, constructionindustry was the next potential area to adopt project management concept, he added.
Mr Kedilaya has said that the Bangalore chapter of the PMI has the largest number of Project Management Professionals and its growth was tremandous. The membership of the PMI Bangalroe had grown from 300 in 1990 to whopping 10,000 now and contributing itself to the world of Project Management through innovative initiatives and programmes.
