India hopeful of more medals at Doha Asian : BSFI

Hyderabad, Sept 18 (UNI) Preparatory to hosting the World Snooker Team Championship here next year, Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI) is hoping that India would win more medals in the forthcoming Asian Games at Doha in December.

Speaking to newspersons here today, the newly elected BSFI President P V K Mohan said, ''We have good chances of winning more medals this time in the Asian Games.'' Both Khel Rathna Pankaj Advani, and Arjuna awarded Anuja Thakur were in fine fettle, he added.

The Indian Seniors team had won the inaugural World Snooker Team Championship at San Jose in California, US.

Captain Mohan said. ''Keeping in view of the 19 World Championships won by India, we are planning to popularise this game in every nook and corner of the country.'' At the recently concluded inaugural World Team Championship in US it was decided to allot the second Edition to Hyderabad. The event would likely to be staged in the month of October-November 2007, which is expected to attract about 50 to 60 participating countries.

Team India having fared well at the inaugural edition in US, would be the front runner to retain top position on home turf, he added.
