Himalya International develops organic manure from mushroom waste
New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) Himalya International (HIL) today said it has developed a new method for generation of organic manure from Spent Mushroom Substrate (SMS) waste.
The company said it along with Natura Agroconsultants performed research and deveplopment on the disposal of its SMS and in the process discovered the product by converting waste, voluminous SMS into the rich organic manure.
The process ensures faster break down of effluents in a shorter period of time by adopting a Bio-Dynamic composting technique.
The company has an annual disposal of 15,000 tonnes of 'Spent Compost' from its mushroom operations besides the huge disposal from its vegetable and cheese processing activities.
It will now convert all organic waste of its food-processing unit including vegetable peels, mushroom roots and the effluent disposal of its newly installed cheese plant into organic manure rich in essential nutrients for plant growth.
It is also embarking on a plan to use all its organic manure for organic produce by its contract farmers in Himachal Pradesh.
HIL will present this technology at the 2nd International SMS Symposium, organised by Penn State University and the American Mushroom Institute (AMI), in the US.
The company is in the process of filing its patent for this process. Its overseas mushroom partners and foreign collaborator shall assist in marketing this new technology to the US mushroom growers and it expects robust earnings from the dissemination of this revolutionary techno1ogy.
