Heavy rains lash AP, Kerala, Lakshadweep
New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) Venkatapuram in Andhra Pradesh recorded the highest rainfall of 350 mm in the country today while heavy rains also lashed Kerala and Lakshadweep.
In Andhra Pradesh, much to the relief of drought-hit farmers, heavy rains lashed the state again under the influence of a low pressure area.
Venkatapuram and Eturnagaram recorded maximum heavy rainfall of 350 and 340 mm respectively, followed by Perur 220 mm, Chinnoor 150 mm Kaleswaram 110 mm, Asifabad 100 mm, Mancherial and Tadepalligudem 80 mm each, Kakinada, Ramagundam, Karimnagar and Manthani, Luxettipet and Sirpur, Ranasthalam 70 mm each.
According to the MET office, with the low pressure area over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood persisting, widespread rain with isolated heavy to very heavy falls, was likely to occur over north Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during the next two to three days.
Heavy rains continued to lash Kerala and Lakshwadeep with the South West monsoon active over the State and the Union Territory.
The Local Met office said the highest rainfall of 40 mm was recorded at Kozha and Mananthawadi.
Perinthalmanna, Karipur Air Port, Mannarkad, Kollengode, Punalur, Varkala and Munnar received 30 mm of rainfall.
Rains eluded Punjab and Haryana as monsoon turned weak at its fag end in the region. However, light to moderate rain lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh overnight, bringing a considerable fall in the temperature in the hilly state. Dharamsala, the headquarters of Kangra district, recorded 42.2 mm rainfall while Gamroor measured 9.0 mm.
