Former Olympian resigns from Pak selection committee, 1 more to go

Lahore, Sep 18 (UNI) A day after reports that senior players are contemplating an en bloc retirement, Pakistan hockey received another setback with Olympian Hasan Sardar quitting from the selection committee after the team's poor World Cup show.

According to reports here, the former Olympian was hurt by Pakistan's slipshod show in the Champions Trophy and the four-nation Tournament and the World Cup debacle was the last straw.

Pakistan finished sixth in the just-concluded showpiece tournament.

After Hasan Sardar sent in his resisgnation to Pakistan Hockey Federation secretary Akhtar-ul-Islam, who is yet to return from Germany, it is learnt that fellow selector Khalid Mahmood is also likely to resign from the selection committee.

Earlier, Pakistan captain Muhammed Saqlain said in Germany that the senior players are contemplating mass retirement and revolted against national coach Shahnaz Shaikh, demanding a foreign coach to guide the team.
