EC rushes 6 teams to detect fake voter list in UP
Lucknow, Sep 18 (UNI) After reports of detection of over two million fake voters in Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission has rushed six teams to inspect the electoral rolls in the state.
The teams have been sent to Allahabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Moradabad and Faizabad.
Sources here said all the teams, comprising three members in each team, have reached their respective areas. The team would be staying in UP till September 22 and submit their report to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
Earlier, reports said there are over two million fake voters in the present electoral rolls under revision.
EC has rushed the teams to get a first hand report on the issue before the publication of draft electoral rolls in UP on October 6.
Publication of final revised electoral rolls would be made on January 1, 2007, on the basis of which UP would go for the assembly polls sometime between February-April 2007.
Harbans Singh is leader of the EC team in Lucknow, which will cover Lucknow and Bareilly divisions, while S K Sabaida would lead the team at Gorakhpur covering Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Vindhyachal divisions.
Tapas Kumar is the leader of the team which reached Allahabad and it will cover Allahabad, Azamgarh, Chitrakoot and Jhansi divisions.
Similarly, S K Raudala will be heading the team at Moradabad and cover Moradabad, Meerut and Saharanpur divisions.
Kanpur and Agra division will be covered by the team headed by Brander Kumar, while A Jaipuriyar-led team will cover Faizabad and Devipatan divisions.
