CBI Director heads 6-member team to Interpol's 75th GA session
New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) CBI Director and Head of National Central Bureau of India (Interpol, New Delhi) Vijay Shanker is leading a six-member delegation to the 75th General Assembly Session of the Interpol being held at RiodeJaneiro, Brazil.
Others in the delegation, joining Mr Shankar for the September 19-22 session, include Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) A K Mitra, Director General of Police (Andhra Pradesh) Swaranjit Sen, Joint Secretary (Security) Ministry of Home Affairs, B Bhamathi, Joint Director (Policy), CBI, N R Wasan and Director, Department of Personnel&Training, P K Tripathi.
During the 4-day deliberations at the Assembly, senior law enforcement officials and experts from around the world will discuss issues on terrorism, human trafficking, drugs, organised crimes, cyber crime and expansion of Interpol databases.
The delegates will also review a proposal for the establishment of the Interpol Anti-corruption Academy.
Interpol (International Police Organisation) is the International body for ensuring cooperation in dealing with crimes transcending national boundaries.
The General Assembly -- Interpol's supreme governing body and comprising of delegates appointed by the governments of member countries -- meets once a year and takes major decisions affecting general policy, resources needed for international cooperation, working methods, finances and programmes of activities.
It also elects the organisation's 'Executive Committee'.
India became a part of the 184-member Interpol in 1949.
The 74th General Assembly of Interpol was held at Berlin (Germany) last year.
