Aluminium die casting seminar in Chennai from Sep 28
Bangalore, Sep 18 (UNI) The Aluminium Association of India (AAI) will hold a two-day seminar on Aluminium Die Casting, aimed at focussing attention on topics of current interest to the Indian aluminium industry, in Chennai from September 28.
Informing this to newspersons here today, Event Organising Secretary Sadashiva Bhat K said the seminar, the fourth in the series being conducted by the AAI this year, also served as the precursor for the mega International Conference on Aluminium, to be held in 2007 in New Delhi. It would create awareness about the die casting process, market, process control and defects, besides focussing on increasing the consumption of the metal.
He said eminent speakers from the industry and Research and Development Institutes would present their papers on related subjects. An international exhibition on aluminium diecasting technology, equipment and supplies had been organised, in which various companies would take part, he added.
Mr Bhat said India's bauxite deposit accounted for about nine per cent of the world's total deposits. However, its per capita consumption was lowest in the world at 1.2 kg as against 25 kg in developed countries. The low per capita consumption was attributed to lack of awareness on the part of industrial designers, architects and innovators about the attractive properties of the metal. The automobile industry in the country was the major procurer of aluminium and there was vast scope for increase its consumption.
He said the AAI, besides playing a key role in creating awareness about the utility of the metal in both industrial and consumable products, was involved in formulating the national policy on aluminium industries with the Ministry of Mines. It had provided basic inputs to formulate the national policy, expected to be announced in a couple of months. The policy included measures to be taken to scale up the per capita consumption of the metal and augment its production.
