3 Pak teams to participate in Surjit Memorial Hockey Tournament

Jalandhar, Sep 18 (UNI) Three Pakistani teams alongwith defending champion Indian Airlines and over 15 other teams would participate in the 23rd Indian Oil Surjit Memorial Hockey Tournament to be played here from November 3 to 12.

Pakistan International Airlines, Habib Bank Ltd, Karachi and Shadman Hockey Club, Rawalpindi would be participating in the tournament, which would be played at the Burlton Park Surjit Hockey Stadium, the organisers said today.

Besides this, most of the prominent teams of the country, including holders Indian Airlines, last years runners up Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Mumbai, Punjab and Sindh Bank, Punjab Police, Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF), would also participate in the prestigious tourney.

About 15 teams are likely to participate in the men's section while six teams Western and Central Railways, Punjab Eleven, Haryana Eleven, Chandigarh Eleven and Pepsu Eleven are expected to play in the women's section.

Winner and runners up in the men's section would be given a cash prize of Rs one lakh and Rs 60,000 respectively while winner and runners up of the women section would get Rs 31,000 and Rs 21,000 prize money respectively, the spokesman added.
