NCP convention reverberates with Vande Mataram

Dehra Dun, Sep 17: The Third National Convention of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) here today reverberated with the singing of the National Song Vande Mataram.

As the party's national President Sharad Pawar unfurled the party's flag prior to the inauguration of the Convention at the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Nagar, the venue of the convention, Vande Mataram was sung in chorus. This was followed by the singing of the National Anthem Jan Gan Man by the large number of party office bearers and workers present here.

After unfurling the flag, Mr Pawar said it was a matter of pride that the Vande Mataram had completed hundred years which reminded us of the role of the freedom fighters. ''This will inspire us and prepare us for challenges ahead,'' he said, adding, it was a matter of pride, all the more, to sing the national song in the land of freedom fighters.

All the delegates including Mr Pawar were accorded a traditional welcome as they arrived for the inaugural ceremony. The unfurling of the flag was marked by the singing of ''Jhanda Uncha rahe hamara'' and shouting of the slogan, ''Kisano se bhaichara hai, Sharad Pawar Pyara hai'' and ''NCP ka yehi hai nara, dharti hi nahi aakash bhi hamara'' by the workers wearing white Gandhian caps.

NCP State President Suryakant Dhasmana presented a Khukhari to Mr Pawar as he alighted on the dias.
