Tata Steel installs 'Chair Professor' at ISM
Mumbai, Sept 16: Steel major Tata Steel today said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian School of Mines (ISM) for installation of a 'Chair Professor' at the institute.
The MoU to this effect was signed at the ISM's office by Tata Steel vice president (Human Resources) A D Baijal and ISM Director Prof T Kumar.
A Tata Steel release here said the MoU envisages that 'Tata Steel Chair Professor' will be in the Mineral Processing with Fuel and Mineral Engineering Department in ISM. The appointed Professor will be part of the faculty and he will conduct research and development work on coal and mineral beneficiation.
Tata Steel has granted Rs one crore for the 'Tata Steel Chair Professor'. The agreement gives access to the 'Chair Professor' to give recommendations and suggestions to the company on a daily basis.
The alliance between the steel company and the educational institute, both of national and international repute, will not only help miners in Tata Steel to enhance their knowledge base, but will also enable students to gain information about operations in coal mining.
