Sonia dissatisfied with development in Rae Bareli

Rae Bareli, Sep 16 (UNI) AICC president Sonia Gandhi today seemed disappointed with the quality of developmental work in her Rae Bareli parliamentary constituency.

Attending a meeting of 'satarkta samiti' (monitoring and review committee) here, Ms Gandhi expresed her displeasure at the quality and pace of developmental work being carried out by various government agencies.

Although Ms Gandhi did not interact with mediapersons waiting outside, local Congress leaders claimed that she felt the set standards were not being met with in construction of roads and similar infrastructure.

The Congress chief reportedly maintained that the standards laid out in constructing roads under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) should be adhered to for better outcome.

There had also been complaints about several projects left incomplete by the agencies here.

Ms Gandhi said one project should completed before embarking on to a fresh one.

Earlier in the day, the AICC president reached Rae Bareli by road from the Uttar Pradesh capital on a two-day visit.

Her visit comes hard on the heels of Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi touring his parliamentary constituency.

She unveiled the statue of freedom fighter Late Munshi Chandrika Prasad 'Guruji' at Bachhrawan and later offered floral tributes at the Shahid Smarak in Munshiganj.

In the evening, the Congress chief interacted with party leaders, office bearers and grassroots workers.

Tomorrow, Ms Gandhi would meet her electorate and youth wing leaders at the NTPC guest house.

Later, the local MP will hit the rough trail in Rae Bareli for the first hand experience of development in her constituency.

On September 13, Rahul had wrapped up his visit of Amethi -- cutting the tour by a day due to a minor muscular injury.
