Portsmouth go top in England after win at Charlton

LONDON, Sep 16 (Reuters) Portsmouth went top of the English Premier League after winning 1-0 at Charlton Athletic at lunchtime today with Lomana Lua Lua scoring the only goal after 74 minutes.

Portsmouth have won four of their opening five games and drawn the other and have yet to concede a goal this season.

They moved ahead of Manchester United, who play Arsenal tomorrow, and Everton, who play Wigan Athletic later today.

The only goal came when Lua Lua, who came on as a 64th minute substitute for Benjani Mwaruwari, smacked home a right-footed shot from 25 metres after being set up by Sean Davis.

As well as Everton's match against Wigan, three other games are taking place on Saturday: Bolton Wanderers v Middlesbrough, Sheffield United v Reading and Watford v Aston Villa.

Five matches take place tomorrow including Manchester United v Arsenal and champions Chelsea v Liverpool.
