Orissa to set up five special court to deal power theft
Bhubaneswar,Sep 16 (UNI) Perturbed over large scale power theft going unabated, the Orissa government has decided to set up five special power courts to deal with power offences in the state.
The state government had earlier established special power police stations in five important districts to receive complaints relating to power thefts.
These power police stations were set up one each in Balasore, Cuttack, Sambalpur,Khurda and Berhampur.Though these special police stations were empowered to deal with only the power theft cases but their trials were taking long time in the normal courts.
This prompted the state government, to set up five special power courts in these five places where the power police stations had already been established to deal with power offence cases.
Official sources said Orissa High Court had already accorded its permission to establish the five special power courts. The Home department, meanwhile, has issued notification authorising the additional district sessions judge in all these five places to be appointed as the presiding officer of the special court to take up the power theft cases.
