National Maths Olympiad for school students to be held in MP

Bhopal, Sep 16 (UNI) With an objective to provide best mathematicians to the country, the National Board of Higher Mathematics will organise Maths Olympiad 2006-07, in which mathematics students from class 9th to 12th are eligible to appear.

The first phase of the three-phased examination will be held in 76 centres at the State Science Education Institute, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh on December 10.

The registration for the first phase can be done with the school principal with a fee of Rs 25 till September 29, and with a late fee of Rs 15 till October 6.

In the second phase, 30 top students of the state level examination would be eligible for the National Maths Olympiad. Of the selected students, six will be from class 12th while the remaining 24 students will be from class 9th to 11th.

The students appearing in second phase examination will be provided with an incentive of Rs 500, a certificate, allowance of Rs 50, and second class to and fro railway fare from their residence to the examination centre.

The first phase examination would include six subjective questions, and the curriculum includes syllabus for classes 9th to 12th excluding statistics and calculus.

The main objective behind organising Maths Olympiad is to provide opportunities at national and international level to the brilliant students of mathematics. The National Board of Higher Mathematics of Nuclear Energy department, Government of India, organises the Maths Olympiad every year.

Earlier, the examination was conducted only for class 11th mathematics students. But since 1999, students of class 9th and 10th and since 2002, students of class 12th have also been included.
