Lightning claims 10 lives in 3 districts of M'wada in 24-hrs

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Sep 16 (UNI) Lightning claimed 10 lives and injured two others in three districts of the Marathwada region during the last 24-hours, official sources said here today.

Of 10 people killed, five were recorded in Hingoli district, four in Jalna and one in Ambajogai tehsil of Beed district, when heavy downpour accompanied with winds and lightning lashed the region.

According to information received here, five people died on the spot when lightning struck them as they were returning home from their farms in Sonegaon tehsil of Hingoli district.

Of the five, four deceased have been identified as Ashok Baburao Warad (50), Babab Shriram Warad (35), and Gyanba Kondiba Sanap (48).

Subsequently a woman, Shalubai Tukaram Ghugane (50) was killed and her son, Hanuman Tukaram Ghugane (20) seriously injured after lightning struck their house at Uti (Purna) in Sonegaon tehsil of Hingoli district.

Official sources at the divisional commissionerate at Jalna said four people died when lightning struck in Bhokardan tehsil. Another person was also killed due to lightning in Beed district.
