MP HC rules DMET as valid
Jabalpur, Sep 15 (UNI) In a major reprieve to medical aspirants seeking admission into private medical and dental colleges, the Madhya Pradesh High Court today quashed Justice Chandra Bhushan Committee's recommendation to hold the Dental and Medical Entrance Test (DMET) afresh.
A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Anang Kumat Patnaik and Justice Suresh Chandra Sinho, while admitting petition filed by Indore-based Sanjay Patni, ruled that the August 13 DMET was valid.
Petitioner's counsel S S Kale told the court that the DMET was organised under the supervision of the Justice Chandra Bhushan Committee formed by the state government under directions from the Supreme Court.
The petition stated that some political organisations had raised objections to the use of pencils instead of pens at some examination centres.
The petition described the Justice Bhushan committee's decision to cancel the examination as illegal.
The court agreed that the Justice Bhushan committee took the decision without providing appropriate reason.
The apex court had directed to complete admission procedures related to entrance in private medical and dental colleges by September 30.
As many as 5,469 students took the DMET test for 1,350 seats on August 13.
On checking the results, the court found that only 944 aspirants were successful.
